Too many people definitely use the wrong medium for communication. However, the other side of the coin is when I see people using social media tools without a plan. Choose the right tool for your audience and don’t just use a technology because it’s trendy.

Hi,

This is clearly what happened, and the arrogance of the MA dems (yes I am a dem). Pres. Obama’s team was really the first to leverage social media and I think it is part of why he was elected. I will the myriad of other reasons for another discussion.

I am curious how we can educate the youth that what goes into the air will haunt them forever. Thoughts?

I am flying Glf 550 aircraft in Either Russia or Dubai, so see the two problems, often on the same flight.
The Russians in most airports do not compensate for the low temperature on the below TL numbers, also in the very cold partsd of Russia, there are often severe temperature inversions at 3000 ft, so the temp can change from -40 to only -20 on the approach, in a matter of 100 feet or so. The auto throttles dont like it at all.
Your remarks about alt busts due to over warm days is also valid, and I will ask friends in DXB ATC how this is catered for here.

My original posts on PP were related to the hot corrections, and you clarified that for me.

I am a military flight school instructor and would like to use your video. If I can get your permission to use it, I want to embed it in a powerpoint slide for a presentation I will us at a safety stand down to enhance flight safety for our future military aviators. Will you email me the flash video so I can put it into my presentation? Robin. Very Thought provoking. Have you thought about entering the trance of the groups you are effectively trying to persuade? I would think that trying to change peoples minds, habits, and decisions would be similar to swimming upstream. Comparatively, entering the trance of your target market or group is like swimming downstream.

I am a woodturner and artist. Many of my clients never knew what woodturning was before I introduced them to it. Why would they care? Why bother looking?

An example: My targeted circles of people are interested in tech, geeks, programmers, social media, etc….

I create a line of art called “We are all Connected” and the line of art sells out in record time.

Why? Because I have entered the trance of the people I have targeted. I have created an emotional and intellectual bond between their trance and mine.

Approach your market at their level. Enter their trance, no matter what that might be, and you’ll have a much better chance of persuading that group.

Hi Robin, for sure it was a great pleasure meeting you at the New Media Expo. I sincerely hope we are able to elaborate the energy we created together and start the conversation about the use of new media in the corporate environment. According to our experiences it is a fantastic, efficient and engaging communication tool with lots of advantages: an effective communication platform for complicated processes (e.g. change management, strategy implementation), cost beneficial in comparison to printed media (who reads the company magazines, really?) and creating pride and loyalty amongst employees. Hi Robin,

Totally agree with you. It was different than other years (anyway, the previous year we went to). I did miss the Libsyn party but got other things in return, such as great contacts. I hope Tim and Emile continue to organize this event and all kudos go to them for this year’s organization.

Internal podcasting is the way to go. Just got today some interesting data on another internal podcast we did. We’re definitely on the right track.

Keep up the good work within Delta.

Thanks, Tom. A positive correlation does not necessarily point to a certain cause and effect. Many people forget that. There can be a bigger cause with two correlated results.

Great post Robin. As an INTP with an engineering degree, I consider myself a skilled problem solver. Lately, I’ve been looking at a related issue – understanding the cause vs. the effect. I see many places where people look at a set of data and proclaim a certain conclusion, but fail to critically look at the cause vs. the effect. While it is important and desired to know how to solve problems, it is even more valuable to understand if you are looking at the cause of a problem, or simply quantifying the effect.

Hey Robin,
Nice explaination. The real test comes when you are not flying a precision approach with a glideslope (although your barometric altitude will be lower for cold weather, but not by much at 200 ft HAT).

When you’re flying a cold weather non-precision approach with no glideslope (GPS synthetic or otherwise), your real threat is at the intermediate fix altitude, vs the IAF altitude (1000′ ft terrain/obstacle clnc) or the MDA (less deviation closer to the altimeter source, and 250-300 ft obstacle clnc).

At the intermediate fix (500′ terrain/obstacle clnc) you have the most altimeter deviation with the least TERPS clnc criteria, and therefore, you have the worst of all possible scenarios.

I’ll e-mail you some of the cold wx research I did at the USAF Advanced Inst school.
